Dr. Cattaneo is the Medical Director of Thoracic Oncology and the Division Director of Surgical Oncology at Luminis Health in Maryland.
After graduating from Duke University with a BS in biology, he attended the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore. Following this, he completed general surgery residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and his cardiothoracic fellowship training at Johns Hopkins and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He joined the faculty of Anne Arundel Medical Center in 2008 and maintains his appointment as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery at Johns Hopkins.
Dr. Cattaneo is board certified in cardiothoracic and general surgery. His clinical focus is on lung and esophageal oncology, mediastinal masses, chest wall tumors, and hiatal hernia repairs. He is skilled in minimially invasive surgery including video-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) complex lung resections and robot-assisted thymectomy.
He has received numerous awards and accolades including recognition as a 'Top Doc' in What's Up Annapolis and Baltimore Magazine over more than 10 years and counting. He has received the Spirit of Compassion Award from the DeCesaris Cancer Institute and The AAMC Nursing Physician Excellence Award.
Away from the operating room and his patient clinic, Dr. Cattaneo directs the multi-disciplinary thoracic oncology program and tumor board. He helped establish the Luminis Health lung screening program as the first multi-disciplinary screening program in Maryland which remains one of the largest in the state. He is actively working with various organizations and hospitals to improve life-saving early detection of lung cancer via lung cancer screening throughout Maryland.
He has served in multiple medical staff governance roles including President of the Medical Staff, Chair of the Credentials Committee, and Chair of the Medical Staff Quality Review Committee at Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Given his numerous leadership and administrative roles, Dr. Cattaneo earned his Physician Executive MBA degree from the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee in 2021 to strengthen his focus on healthcare leadership, operations, and strategy.
He enjoys reading and exercising including working out at the gym and cycling on peloton. He lives in Anne Arundel County with his wife and four children.
